Diet.com -- Calorie Counts on the Fly

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

This is a fun one, as discussed on radio with the very gracious Wags & Elliot on Ohio's WLVQ FM last week & in on KVIL-FM in Dallas today with Gene & Julie ... Picture this: You're at one of 1700 restaurants nationwide, one of the 36,000 item menus listed has a "healthy heart" next to it. To be clear, it often has NOTHING to do with calories. If you're an old-fashion believer in calories in & calories out (simple math), this new online mobile tool may be for you.

Have tested it all week & the instant results are truly instant. They call it, "Nutrition on the GO." I call it avoid crazy mistakes ... You send text message to Diet1 (34381) -- same drill as voting on American Idol. You type in the menu item (e.g, Subway 6 inch tuna sub ...) They text you right back with key -- & frankly staggering stats -- 530 calories (imagine when you have 12 inch!); carbs 45g: protein 22g; fat 31g. Then, you can make an educated call. I'm swearing of them. Am a 6-12" veggie girl ... Not that it's anything to brag about!

The Political HOT SEAT

Are Huge Online Polls Telling? Can that many People be Wrong?

A lot of controversy this year about the accuracy of political polling and how off it's been, look no further than New Hampshire & by the hour, Pennsylvania. Now people are starting to look at Internet polls. It's always interesting to look at online polls like the HUGE number of votes garnered in the daily HOT SEAT poll which you can actually "snag" & post on your site. With hundreds of thousands of votes on any given day, it's fun to see how your own opinion matches up on a percentage base. In total, you've got to think these polls might -- arguably -- be one of the better barometers of public opinion and perhaps a precursor to what will really ends up happening in the general election. The new Hot Seat phenomenon has garnered such attention, even Barack Obama has personally responded to some of the poll results.

JeansAll done up for a night outReese Witherspoon

Angelina Jolie's $1,195 eye candy purse by UK specialty designer (actually not over-the-top expensive by celeb standards), and then you click through a slideshow of similar styles, colors -- including a tote available at Target.com for $19.99. At a $1,175 savings, that certainly delivers on the "Look for Less" promise!

The site features things similar to what you see in magazines, but immediately actionable. If you're a bargain bee & enjoy the hunt ... or if you're aspiring bargain bee who needs -- don't we all -- to start being a little more thrifty, this site is worth a stop. How cool is this ....! Haven't tested it yet, but can't wait to. You can turn a 10-30 second digital video clip into a little print flip book to re-create the moment. The smallest size would make the cutest party-favor can think of ... See Rave Reviews from bunch of sources, including HGTV's "I want that!" Me too:)

Hannah Montana Jumping on the Bed ....

Friday, March 21, 2008
As discussed on radio this week, if you've ever been around Disney stars & their handlers, you know they run a tight ship. So, THIS must be a calculated decision to let Miley be Miley along with her best friend Mandy Jiroux as she transitions from having a 7-9 year old following to maintaining & building pre-teen & teen fans.

Reminds me of the transition of Lizzie McGuire to Hilary Duff.

The antics are pure 15-year-old. According to People Magazine, Miley does the editing. In other words, it's pretty much what every other teen girl you may know is doing -- except the beds they're jumping on are at the Four Seasons and the snacks they're pigging out on are on a private plane vs back of the station wagon. Otherwise, same, same.

Will say this ... Miley probably has 18 months tops before hanging out in bed with your girlfriend is going to have a whole different connotation & be the kind of viral video that cultivates the wrong kind of fan base. I hope she & everyone who works with her gets this & doesn't learn the hard way.

See what you think. As with the Hannah Montana concert, you may want to adjust the volume DOWN ...

Spring Break Web Cams -- Take a Peek at "the scene"

Tuesday, March 18, 2008
This year, over 250,000 college students will go away on Spring Break, but they may not be as "away" as they may think. Parents who want to keep an eye on just how hot the action is getting, can go high-tech by tapping into beach web cams. EarthCam.com offers links to live views of popular Spring Break destinations like Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Fort Lauderdale and Daytona Beach. Kids who want to get psyched for the trip, can also check them out.

The cameras aren't really intended to "spy" on your kids, but they'll give you a good idea of the kind of festivities going on. Brace yourself! I showed one mom this weekend & her reaction summed it up well, "I'm nervous & jealous!"

Whom are the neighbors giving money to?

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

fundrace.huffingtonpost.com - Whom are the neighbors giving money to?

This is one sure does give you an inside look at which households are writing checks to support candidates & how much they're writing them for. Looks like I've got some generous friends, neighbors & colleagues;)

These days, of course, many people aren't writing checks, they're donating online with one click. You can even sign up to give an amount on a recurring basis (i.e. $50 a month). To see who is up to this, you can search by street address, zip code, or company name.

Arianna Huffington's site is quick to point of some celebrities are playing both sides of the fence, supporting multiple candidates. And Huff Post suggests you can use this clever tool to find out if the new guy you're dating is really a Republican or just dresses like on.e Not that I would ever do such a thing;)
