Catchy title for an important new campaign from the Ad Council ... Have had them all ... Rear Facing Convertible, Foward-Facing Convertible, Booster No Back ... Though it's estimated 75% of kids are NOT secured correctly in their car seats. It's all about the fit ... Or, "LATCH."
The Ad Council launched a new series of national public service advertisements as part of Veterans Support Campaign. The PSAs highlight the importance of beginning a conversation with returning service men and women and direct audiences to visit a new site, SupportYourVet.org, to learn how to start a constructive dialogue. Of the 1.7 million Veterans who have served -- or are serving -- in Iraq or Afghanistan, nearly one third are suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, depression or traumatic brain injury, with the number expected to increase in coming years.
The ads center on the concept of "welcome home" signs which convey the difficulty of approaching and engaging a friend or family member who has recently returned home. The site has practical conversation tips, including: keep it light, take the lead; and address the elephant in the room.
If your good at setting goals, but need a little extra help with the follow through (who doesn't?) – log on to stickk.com where you can make a commitment -- like losing weight, quitting smoking, reading more, improving your credit score -- and then, put your money where your mouse is. stickk.com takes credit card information up front and charges your card weekly if you fail to meet your stated goal. You can designate someone to be a referee – a friend or spouse, for instance to keep you honest. The concept was developed by a Yale University economist based on years of behavioral research indicating when people stake their money or their reputation, they are much more likely to actually achieve a goal. Forfeited money can be directed to a friend or to charity, so what do you have to lose?
More than 300,000 of our troops have come back from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with some form of a brain injury, PTSD, combat stress or debilitating depression. These servicemen and women need our help and there's no better time than today, Veteran's Day, to extend a hand.
A great way to get involved is via The Bob Woodruff Family Foundation, online at www.remind.org. The mission of the foundation is to assist service members injured while serving in the United States Armed Forces. They place a special emphasis on the "hidden signature injuries" of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan – traumatic brain injury (TBI) and combat stress injuries including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Online Celebrity Auction: Now through November 19th, an online celebrity auction is being held at www.charityfolks.com/remind. Proceeds will benefit The Bob Woodruff Foundation to help wounded service members and their families heal.
Some of the items up for bid are listed below – GO TO: www.charityfolks.com/remind to see more or place your bid.

Today on the Matthew Blades Morning Show in Milwaukee, I was asked, "If there's one website you should visit before you die, what is it?" Pretty loaded question .... Here's what I cam up with, cause it's probably the most compelling video I've ever seen on the Internet:
The Philadelphia Women's Triathlon was even better this year. Great weather & overall, a wonderfully run event. My dear friend Carol got third place in her age group. She is inspiring. Ladies, if you're looking for a good first triathlon, this one is just terrific. My daughter Claire is hoping to do the duathlon next year.
There are TONS of races all over the country. Once you get hooked, you can find them almost anywhere/anytime. Just pick a State on The American Triathlon Calendar .... www.TriFind.com
According to a recent survey, and as reported for Fox 5 DC, nearly half of all college students describe themselves as feeling so depressed they couldn't function during the past school year. Even more say they've faced an emotional problem of some sort.
Perhaps it's time to make sure young people are mentally prepared for the upcoming school year ...
Hopefully there's benefits to students finding mental health support and hearing celebrities like Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz open up about up about abuse and life-altering related topics.

My colleague Maggie covered the story ... Trust me, she's thin;) This is an intriguing Woman's Day/AOL Body poll re: whether women would choose wealth over health or a great body over a full wallet. Once had discussion with high-end hair stylist re: why "thinness" is so valued. Our conclusion: cause you can't buy it.
So ... Aniston's 118lb reported weight = the Powerball equivalent.
This is not the time you want to come to down with something ... for sniffles, runny noses and coughs consider referring to these sites with some home remedies: AOL Body,Home Remedies for You and the Mayo Clinic have proposed cures for everything from the Common Cold to Snoring. They all -- of course -- suggest pursuing clinical care if/as needed, which people tend to skip over the holidays.
The recently launched www.disaboom.com is the brainchild of a Dr J. Glen House who graduated from medial school after a skiing accident left him quadriplegic. The concept is getting rave reviews.
The theme: Live Forward. Can't argue with the slogan for this new site aimed at the 50 million Americans with some form of physical or mental disability. It's an under-served audience: they're growing & they have money. A potentially winning combination for an impressive website as covered by The New York Times.
They're building the largest collection of accessibility reviews on everything from restaurants to hot travel spots. They've also got relevant & timely information on health & wellness issues. The community is growing by the hour ... There are first-hand accounts of dating; suggested books for kids; search engines for job opportunities. You can even increase the font size of the site by clicking on box in top right corner.
A friend in the investment community brought this site to my attention. I hope they make a fortune & a world of difference.
As discussed on WSJ Radio this morning, am really impressed with the evolving role of cellphones & the Internet in emergencies. Having covered this angle around Sept 11 & the NYC Blackout + Katrina, it's striking to see carries effectively re-routing traffic; text messaging becoming a clutch application & blogs, the Red Cross "Safe & Well" database & even Twitter becoming real-time realities.
USA TODAY did a terrific round-up with some useful links:
