Seed.com: You've Got .... Assignments!

Monday, March 8, 2010

Create. Be Heard. Get Paid. Has nice ring to it & is a progressive new approach to journalism .... Am personally recommending it to talented friends & family and hope you'll also take advantage of this brand new opportunity if you've worked, or have always wanted to work, as a writer or photographer.

When you SIgn Up for Seed, you can view an updated list of available assignments. It's as if you've got a seat at the newsroom assignment desk (see: How it Works).

For example, they'll pay $25 for three surprising eco-friendly shots. If you're a photo buff, it's worth a shot.

The writing assignments give a word count, deadline – sometimes hours/sometimes weeks – and a price, anywhere from $10 for a quick piece to $300 for something more expansive.

You have to do the work up-front and there's no guarantee your work will be accepted by the network editors, but Seed has an online "Academy" loaded with tips and examples of content that pulls in an audience, so you can apply some of the same techniques.

Added bonus: It's a great way to get discovered, build a portfolio of published work and followers.

For more information & to get a better feel, check out the Seed blog.

Out-of-Print CowlNerves of Steel Cowl

Wanted to publicly thank Etsy and Dennice Mankarious of Fringe in particular, with their help in providing props for our recent TODAY SHOW appearance and upcoming holiday-oriented segments. The "cowl" pictured above from Fringe is like nothing you've ever felt. Think there's one word to sum it up: Special. I brought it to Fox News Channel and shared with the make-up artists who knit, because knew they'd appreciate. The caliber of the yarn and the style is impeccable even by their high standards! Dennice relayed she made the piece wide, extra thick & extra long so you have many options.

The "capelets" are also STUNNING & vesatile.

Either-Or Capelet

Thank you again Etsy & Dennice and congratulations on your impressive endeavors in producing and marketing truly unique homemade gifts.

This site is really helping my family take advantage of things within short driving distance of our home. Travel Videos on Truveo ** Watch BEFORE You Pack

Thursday, May 14, 2009

We recorded our WSJ Radio weekly spot re: Truveo videos, with a focus on virtual tours of places to visit and what to see and do when you get there. Watching a short online clip of a potential vacation destination can really give you a good feel for what to expect. With purse strings tightening on vacation travel (new poll indicates more than half of all Americans feel they have an even smaller budget for vacation(s) this year compared to last year) gathering as much information as you can about a destination in advance could help you get more bang for your buck. You'll be more informed about which attractions may be worth your while (and your money) and those you can probably scratch off your list. You can do your own travel video searches online at Truveo.com. Plug in a destination you're considering and see what pops up.

Must we really be friends?

Monday, May 4, 2009

The behind-the-scenes conversation in the broadcast control room around social networking is a riot. Seems everyone struggles with friend requests. You can ignore them. In my mind, if you start accpeting invitations from people you don't really know, you're compromising the integrity of your network & it actually makes the whole thing less valuable. Kind of like the best parties aren't neccessarily the biggest. They're the ones with just the right mix & where you know everyone's name.

Here's a clever article, worth scanning. A PRACTICAL FACEBOOK NETIQUETTE GUIDE & Netiquette: Handling a Facebook Request from an Office Random - Lemondrop
