m&ms for nana

Friday, October 26, 2007

For as long as I can remember, my Nana always had a candy bowl. It was our first stop:) Fond memories. So, when came across this site, couldn't help but order Nana some personalized m&ms.

They're two shades of pinks. One side reads: Nana Candy. The other side: XOXO

She -- deservedly -- now has her own candy line:) Hope she is pleasantly surprised when they arrive ....

Move over Ziploc

Friday, September 14, 2007

Am a BIG fan of Ziploc bags -- Get the freezer strength & use them to store makeup (that's a lot of bags). Fell in love with the gallon size & the super XXL for storage of things of all sizes. Now -- thanks to tip from reader of this site, am head-over-heels for chic decorated storage bags from Mobi.

And, look, just in time for Halloween:

Mixing Up the Good Ones

Thursday, September 13, 2007

Everyone gets a few good shots & only one person seems to ever do anything with them. Am making this up, but you get the idea ... We can all trade photos online, but it gets messy -- you have some from your sister; you've got your own; someone sent some you couldn't open; another person who had a camera at the event, never sent them .... All of this is why Mixbook is a refreshing approach. You can collaborate online with all of your friends and family to collectively create a comprehensive album. Someone should still take the lead (some things never change), but it's a great way to get to the finish line faster & making sure you're capturing "all the good ones."

Bonding with Dogs

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

I was with the most well-behaved dogs you'll ever meet this w-end. One is a white lab & the other is a chestnut brown golden retriever, in a deep chestnut you've never seen before. They are both gorgeous. I didn't exactly bond with them & am kind of bummed about it. It's my fault. They know when you're focused on them & when you're not. These dogs miss nothing. It's interesting, they don't have a lot "stuff," but they seem perfectly content. It amazes me the amount of "stuff" you can get for a dog. This catalog just arrived. inthecompanyofdogs.com

Am thinking I'm best suited for the Sculptural Breed Topiaries, though I'd probably forget to feed & water them:(

Where's George?

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

Do you ever wonder where the paper money in your pocket has been, or where it will go next? This is the place to find out. Track George as he exchanges his way around the country, sometimes even the world. Great rainy day project for kids. And if you come across a dollar bill with 'Where's George" written on it, now you know why. It's all part of this "experiment."

Human Clock--1,440 Minutes in a Day

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

The Human Clock shows a different photograph representing each of the 1,1440 minutes making up a 24-hour day. It automatically refreshes every minute. This intriguing site was developed by a 30-year old guy from Portland, Oregon. The pictures are sent in by fans of the website all over the world, as far away as Antarctica. If you want your minute of creative fame on the human clock, contribute to this compelling project, submit a picture. They suggest focusing on a less popular time (see respective # of posts per time slot and pick one with the fewest submissions) and take the picture outside, since most of the site's clock watchers tend to be inside, sitting behind a desk. Help them make time fly.

Underwater Sculptures

Wednesday, August 1, 2007

We had to dig deep for this next site, UnderWaterSculpture.com. It's the online home of an underwater art exhibit just completed off the coast of Grenada . Over the past year, sculptor Jason Taylor, with the support of the local tourism board, worked to place a series of steel and concrete sculptures on the ocean floor. The pieces celebrate the richness of Caribbean culture and provide a marine park for scuba divers and snorkelers. You've got to see this ...

This is a great chance to get caught up on TV from recent yester-year. It's actually pretty amazing, you can watch all these shows (from Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, The Jetsons, to The Ben Stiller Show) for free anytime. Beware, could distract you endlessly at the office or at home.

The Largest Student Art Gallery on the Web

Monday, July 23, 2007

This is just terrific. It's the largest student art museum on the web. Teachers rave it's a great way for children to feel good about their work (little like seeing it displayed in the school hallway or at the local mall). Plus, over time, it's a unique & secure way to track your child's artistic ability over time from preschool to high school. You can choose to grant access to friends & family and they can order coffee mugs, mouse pads, etc. from the museum shop. Here's list of participating schools. Make sure yours is on it.
