One of the good things about doing morning TV, is your weekends get off to an early start. You're done with your report & usually the first one sitting outside Home Depot waiting for it to open. This weekend, we got a little more creative. Someone once told me, "You've got to treat the city as if you were a tourist." Eight years later, am finally starting to take advantage of all the things people from all over the world travel to see.
So, instead of going to Home Depot, after Fox News Channel, we went across the street to Union Station and hopped on the DC Duck Boat Tour. http://www.dcducks.com/about.htm You literally climb aboard an authentic, fully restored 1942 "Duck" which drives past museums & monuments with a guided tour.

Then, it's wheels up with the flick of a switch, and you're in the Potomac River. The initial decent gets a lot of "ooh's & aahs." Our Captain was gracious enough to let the kids steer the duck.

Before it all ends, they pass out duck whistles. You really want to take these away from your kids before you get in the car to go home ... ;)
Here's a great source of information re: what's happening in your town, wherever you live. www.cityguide.aol.com Just type in the name of your city or the one you're visiting. You can even sign up to have a newsletter pushed to you every week. It'll arrive around Wednesday, just in time to plan something little special or different for the weekend.
Hope you're enjoying your weekend. Let us know what you're up to & what online resources you draw on ... Thanks.

Sounds like you had a fun adventure. We spent the weekend camping. What a fun family activity. ReserveAmerica.com is a fantastoc site to check out all the campsites in your area--they give you maps and full details about the parks and then you can book your stay on the site as well. Most state campsites are around $13 a night--pretty good for a family of 6. Sure beats the cost of heading to the movies!
I'm so glad you finally decided to see DC. :)
